I was THRILLED to appear on CTV Morning Live this morning to share my must-have skincare products for fall and winter. (Special thanks to Sweet Pea Boutique for dressing me for the segment!) No matter your skin type, I’m sure you’ve experienced some concerns with your skin as the weather gets colder, the air gets dryer, and we turn up the heat in our homes. I know that as someone with regularly dry skin, my skin only gets patchier, flakier, and drier as the temperatures plummet. Can you relate?
I’ve rounded up a number of my favourite products and linked you to them directly so you can purchase them for yourself AND if you use this link, you’ll get 10% off your Glossier purchase! http://bff.glossier.com/gEEUH (I’ll get store credit if you purchase through my link).
As a thank you to all of my loyal readers, I’m doing a giveaway on my Instagram & Facebook pages for a few of the goodies I showed in today’s segment, along with a giftcard to Glossier! (In no way endorsed by Facebook, Instagram, or Glossier) Head on over to either page to get the details and to enter!
Read on if you’re looking for products that will help you to soothe your dry skin this fall and winter!
Freeman Feeling Beautiful Charcoal and Black Sugar Polishing Mask
I’ve been using this polishing scrub for years as both a mask and a traditional exfoliator for my face and body. The charcoal allows the mask to be super purifying, and the black sugar is abrasive to the point that it easily sloughs off dead skin, but not so harsh that it leaves your skin irritated. I love using this product prior to any super hydrating masks or before I self-tan. You can let it dry on your face and then use it as a scrub as you wash it off, or simply rub it all over your face or body as a traditional exfoliant. It works great on dry lips too (just don’t ingest it)! One of the greatest things about this product is how cheap it is–under $5 on Amazon, Atlantic Superstore (or Loblaws) and Wal-mart.
I’m sure you’ve seen selfies of people in sheet masks all over instagram, and with good reason because they’re fantastic! Sheet masks are one of the latest beauty crazes hailing from Korea; the skincare capital of the world. Sheet masks (which include cut-outs for your eyes, nose, and mouth) are made from cotton or other fiber, doused in serum and made easy to apply to your face. They lock in hydration and you don’t have to wash it off like other typical, clay based masks. They’re great for on-the-go, and even in the stale air environment of an airplane, as you can dispose of the sheet when you’re done and allow the serum to absorb into your skin. No rinsing required! The sheet masks that I favour contain Hyalauronic Acid and other super hydrating ingredients making them perfect for skin in need of moisture in 15 minutes or less!
As much as I love sheet masks, you can’t deny how good it feels to slather on a regular face mask and relax with a glass of wine. When you have more time to devote to your skincare routine, you may wish to use either one of these ultra hydrating products.
I’ve been a huge fan of Glam Glow’s Thirstymud (available through both Amazon and Sephora) for a few years now. GlamGlow is a pricier brand, but I can assure you this product is worth the investment. Their Thirstymud is a non-drying (as in, it doesn’t dry on your skin like a clay based product), intensely hydrating mask and is great for all skin types. I like sleeping with it on overnight because I wake up with intensely (I mean IN-TENSE-LY) hydrated skin. If you don’t want to sleep with it on, you can apply it and let it sit for about twenty minutes and just wipe off the excess product with a tissue.
My other favourite mask is Glossier‘s Moon Mask. While it’s much cheaper than GlamGlow, it’s no less luxurious and soothing. Formulated with sweet almond oil and hyalauronic acid, it’s a must-have Glossier item in my books. I notice instant results when I use this mask–even after only 20 minutes! Like the Glam Glow, you can choose to sleep in this mask if you wish, too, but it’s not necessary.
While masks are nice, they’re not usually something that most people reach for every single day (no judgment if you do, though!). It’s nice to have a few staples that you can use on a daily basis to ensure that your skin is remaining hydrated all day long.
I only had time to talk about one moisturizer in the segment (the Glossier priming moisturizer: rich), but I have 2 favourites that I like pretty much equally and for different reasons. The thing that they both have in common is that they’re incredibly hydrating, thick, rich, and feel more like a treatment than just a daily moisturizer.
This luxurious face cream made with shea butter is scented with lavender (do note if you’re scent-sensitive) and instantly makes me feel like I’ve been transported to a spa. I like to wear this both day and night as it makes the perfect base for my makeup. The price-point is a bit steeper than most other Glossier products, but it’s definitely worth having a rich night cream during the harsh winter months to really pamper your tired skin.
Maritime Naturals Retinol Moisturizer
I shared this product on my Summer Beauty Essentials Segment with Global TV in July and it is still one of my favourites. At the time, I chose it because it helps to reduce sun damage while being a great moisturizer, but it’s continued to be one of my faves as the temperatures drop. It is produced locally in Bridgewater, NS and ships around the world through Amazon. It’s all natural and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by accelerating the production of collagen with Vitamin A (retinol), Vitamin B, Jojoba oil and Shea Butter.
Super Bounce Serum
Glossier makes three different serums, and if you’re looking for something that will lock in moisture, look no further than Super Bounce. Made with (you guessed it) hyaluronic acid and vitamin B5, this non-sticky formula absorbs right into your skin, bringing back elasticity, plumpness, and hydration. A little goes a long way and my skin has never been more glow-y since I started using it. This is a must-have item in my make up bag.
The Balm Dotcom
Glossier‘s universal skin salve can be used wherever you’re experiencing dryness. Use the original (unscented/un-tinted) on dry cuticles, elbows and hands or enjoy any of the many flavours/tints on your lips as a traditional balm. I’ve even used mine as a brow gel in a pinch!
There you have it! Have you tried any of these products? What are some of your favourites for the fall & winter months?
When Glossier heard I was going to be featuring their products in my segment they very kindly sent me a few brand new versions of my favourite products so that I’d have full products to show. The segment was not initiated or sponsored by them. I’ve genuinely enjoyed their products since before they were even available to ship in Canada. If you use my Glossier BFF discount code (you’ll save 10%), I will receive a store credit.
